Half-Term Holidays in St Andrews

As the first half-term of the year approaches, families are gearing up for a well-deserved break to blow away those January blues for another year. Whether you are seeking adventure of some relaxation, St Andrews and The East Neuk of Fife ticks both boxes, and all those in between.

Nestled along the picturesque coast of Scotland, these historic towns and fishing villages offer a plethora of activities to keep both kids and adults entertained.

Here is your guide on what you can enjoy on your half-term holidays in St Andrews:

1. The Great Outdoors

Take advantage of the numerous, award-winning beaches which surround us. Pack the bucket and spade and let the sandcastle building commence!

Along the coast in Elie, enjoy an array of water-based activities, from sailing to canoeing, at Elie Watersports. Equipment is also available to hire, including Stand Up Paddleboards. You can even enjoy 10% off all activities when staying with us, simply show your booking confirmation or keyring to redeem on the day.

If you are feeling brave and fancy going for a chilly sea-dip, head along to Kingsbarns beach. Afterwards, you can retreat to the Wild Scottish Sauna, nestled amongst the dunes, for a rejuvenating warm up. If you book a private session, you can enjoy 10% off (code to redeem within your digital property guide).

The Fife Coastal Path is easily accessible from all our properties, and is a great way to explore the mesmerising, coastal scenery between all of the charming villages scattered along the coast.

2. Indoor Activities

Although we can promise a beautiful home to retreat to, the one thing we cannot promise, is good weather. But, fear not, there are plenty of indoor-based activities you should absolutely make use of – rain or shine!

St Andrews Aquarium

Alongside their huge array of aquatic animals, you can also encounter meerkats, monkeys, penguins, reptiles, seals, and much more. Alongside their standard tickets, animal feeding encounters are available to book too, for both the meerkats and penguins.

A fun-filled family day out for all, head along to St Andrews Aquarium, perched down by the water front on the way to West Sands beach.

Cinema

A characterful, independent cinema, The New Picture House is right in the heart of St Andrews. Enjoy snacks, slushies, and all the usual cinema necessities, whilst enjoying the latest must-see movies. Tickets start from £3.50 for under 3s, and up to £8 for adults.

Fairmont Spa

Just 5 minutes outside of the centre of St Andrews, The Fairmont Hotel Spa is equipped with a large pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and fitness suite. Our guests can enjoy discounted access for only £25/day for adults, and £5/day for children (under 3s go free). Forms to redeem the discounted access can be sent via email, or picked up from our office.

3. Outdoor Activities

With one of the driest climates in Scotland, there are an array of outdoor based activities scattered through Fife which can be enjoyed by all.

Golf Galore

It would not be right for some sort of golf-based activity to be included when coming to St Andrews! You do not need to be a pro-golfer to enjoy golf in St Andrews. In fact, there are an array of activities tailored to beginners and children, making it far more accessible to all.

The Himalayas is situated between the famous Old Course and West Sands beach and offer 9-hole of 18-hole putting course options. The course is open to anyone over the age of 3, and is a fun and affordable activity for all, at just £3 per adult, and £1 for under 12s.

Just 10 minutes outside of St Andrews, Clayton Adventure Golf is an 18-hole course modelled off the Old Course, featuring all of its landmarks including the Swilcan Bridge, Road Hole bunker and more! No need to book in advance, you can just turn up and play. The cost for adults is £9.50, and children £7.50.

Bowbridge Alpacas

Just a short drive away from St Andrews, Bowbridge Alpacas offer 1hr or 2hr Alpaca experiences for all ages. Enjoy taking an Alpaca through obstacle courses, out on a walk, and some clicker training. End the day with a felt making session – your own little souvenir to take home. Kingask guests can also redeem 10% off all Alpaca experiences, and in their gift shop. Pre-booking is required.

Enough to ignite your desire for a new adventure? We have limited availability left for February half term, and even less over Easter. Book your stay with us now, make use of our exclusive guest discounts, and enjoy of the above and more, right from your doorstep. Many of our homes are pet-friendly, so even the dog can come along to join in on the fun.
