The beauty of sentimental staycations

There is no doubt exploring somewhere new each time you go away is exciting, but there is something quite unique about returning to that one ‘special spot’, that holds a particular place in your heart.

If you are returning to a childhood destination, there is no feeling quite like the nostalgia which floods back as you return to the same places you have countless memories, remembering exactly what you did in that exact location, and how much fun you had in that moment in time. It allows you to truly unwind and remind yourself of how it felt to be a child without a care in the world, when all you had to worry about was how perfectly set your sandcastle was, or how deep you could bury your sibling under the sand.

Later in life, it’s so important to find places which allow you to totally switch off and recharge. The East Coast of Scotland and its coastal beauty, provide the perfect balance of secluded, soul-soothing scenes, alongside having all you could need so accessible to you. Finding a home-from-home you love and return to, provides you with that exact escape. You know the house inside out, as if it were your own. You open the door and breathe a sigh of relief, the dog heads to their favourite spot, the children run off to claim their bedrooms – you are home, and your holiday has officially begun.

We at Kingask are proud to have a wonderful customer base, many of whom have visited the same homes year in, year out, for as long as we (and they) can remember. Here is what they have to say about their home-from-home at Kingask:

Fiona Sullivan – Kittocks Cottages

After many years staying in St-Andrew’s for family holidays in various properties around the town a few years ago I stumbled across Kingask Property and the small row of Kittocks cottages between St-Andrews and Kingsbarns close to the Fairmont hotel. We have never looked back staying twice a year normally at the cottages.

On our first visit we were so impressed with the space within the cottages, the beautiful gardens at the back and cleanliness of the properties on arrival. I have an English Springer Spaniel and the cottages were just ideal with so much garden space for each cottage as well as a back yard with relaxing seats, play area for children, football goal and barbeque area. For those who like the outdoors the cottages are brilliant. You truly feel like you are out in the country and can relax away from normal busy everyday life back home..

For myself a huge draw is also locality, 5minutes drive to the east sands in St-Andrews and into town and 10minutes short drive to my favourite beach Kingsbarns and onwards for a wee tour of the East Neuk villages of Crail, Anstruther, Elie and St-Monan’s.

The staff are so helpful with the property keys just being across the road to pick up, any issues they are on the end of the phone and helpful straight away.

There are good discounts with local restaurants on showing you are staying with Kingask and you can also get access to the Fairmont for a weekly or daily fee which is excellent for a wee spa treat or pool fun with children.

The cottages would suit everyone from families with children for holiday with loads of garden and outdoor space close to beaches, to a quiet retreat for couples young or old as well as a fun getaway for groups of friends or various families staying together. They are magnificent properties for dog owners and the Fife coastal walk is just across the road joining at the Fairmont.

I have been lucky to stay in all of Kittocks cottages and look forward to a Spring Break again this year. I’d like to visit some of the other Kingask properties throughout St-Andrews soon. From staff friendliness, communication and organisation to locality, property space, cleanliness, and outdoor space I would recommend Kingask to anyone looking for a stay in St-Andrew’s and the East Neuk.

Phyllis Ann Morrison – Kilrymont View

My husband, myself and Maggie our West Highland Terrier have stayed at least 25 times at Kilrymount View.

As my husband is a member at Balcombie Links Crail, it is extremely handy for him to access his golf, while Maggie and I walk the beautiful beaches locally. As we bring two cars, the ease of driveway parking is essential to us and the location of the house is great, as is the private dog friendly garden makes it a great rental for us.

The house has everything you need with exceptionally comfortable beds and the cosy wood burner in the winter is a great asset!!!! We always have a lovely time at Kilrymount View

Whether St Andrews is your newfound love, or the East Coast of Scotland is of sentimental importance to you, you can find your perfectly suited property with us and secure your regular visits to this idyllic corner of Scotland in what will become your home-from-home.
