There are four main ways to secure a tee time:

The Advance Application (Most Common for Visitors)

This is the primary way international visitors book the Old Course.

Best option if you’re planning your golf trip well in advance.

The 48-Hour Ballot (Daily Ballot System)

If you’re already in St Andrews, you can enter the daily ballot:

Example: Enter on Monday for Wednesday play.

This is how many visiting golfers secure last-minute Old Course rounds.

Single Golfer Queue (Guaranteed Solo Route)

If you’re travelling alone, this is often the most successful strategy.

It requires flexibility — but many golfers succeed this way.

Booking Other St Andrews Links Courses

Besides the Old Course, there are six additional courses you can book more easily:

These can typically be:

Many golfers plan a multi-round trip — aiming for the Old Course while also playing Jubilee, New or Castle.
