Horseriding in St Andrews and Fife

A slightly different way to experience the beautiful Fife countryside is on horseback. Whether you’re an experienced horse rider or looking to try out something new, there’s a selection of excellent riding schools locally that are certainly worth a visit.

Barbarafield Riding School

Open every Tuesday to Sunday throughout the year, Barbarafield riding school is located just outside of Cupar, around a 15 minute drive from St Andrews. The riding school is set on 300 acres of farmland, where they offer a variety of riding activities, including hacks, riding lessons and fun days for children.

For the more avid rider, they offer fast paced, 2-3 hour long hacks across 20km of land and for children or beginners, a gentle 30 min hack whilst you get to grips with the technique. During school holidays, ‘own a pony’ days are available where children can learn all they need to know about having your own pony.

Edenside

Situated in Guardbridge, just a short 5-10 minute drive from St Andrews, Edenside stables offer riding lessons and experiences for riders of all abilities, with a beautiful backdrop of the Eden river. They even offer parties for children, a great way to spend a special day a little differently.

Kinshaldy Riding Stables

Kinshaldy Riding Stables is based in the epicentre of Tentsmuir Forest, providing thousands of acres of woodland to explore. This riding school also offers lessons for advanced and novice riders, as well as up to hour long hacks. You can opt for a private lesson or a group lesson, where you’ll be paired with riders of a similar ability.

For the little ones, 30 min lead-rein pony hacks are available.
